World Cup Game 7: Spirit too strong for Puerto Rico

The Aussie Spirit overpowered Puerto Rico with bat and ball to earn a berth in the third-place playoff game of the World Cup in Oklahoma City.

The game was over after five innings, with Australia winning 7-0, outhitting the Puerto Ricans 10-2 in a polished performace throughout the lineup.

Belinda White led the offensive charge with three hits, including a three-run homer in the third inning that scored Chelsea Forkin and Jade Wall. Stacey Porter had two hits including a triple, and Forkin had two singles.

Starting pitcher Justine Smethurst dominated for three innings, allow

ing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. Kaia Parnaby was slo impressive in relief, allowing just one base runner in her two innings of work.

The win gave Australia a 6-1 win-loss record and put them into the third-place playoff game against USA Elite.
