U19 Women’s and U15 Regional Championships – Day 1 wrap

U19 Women’s and U15 Regional Championships – Day 1 wrap

Day 1 at the U19 Elinor McKenzie Shield and U15 Regional Championships kicked off with the opening ceremony under the Queensland sun. The past, present and future were on show as each team was led in by former Australian capped players, current Open Women’s squad members and of course the local aspiring Tee-ball players. Two of the Gilley’s Shield victorious Queensland Heat senior players, Erin Thras and Jess Muller, officially opened the combined event with an entertaining and unorthodox approach with aim for the players to focus on breaking the ‘competitive ice’ and building new friendships. After a couple of new friends were made and a few secrets were shared the event was underway!

Qld defeated Vic in the first game of the day, 11-5 and continued their strong form taking on Tas in Game 5, defeating them 11-1. NSW also picked up two wins for the day taking care of SA and ACT. Vic, ACT and WA were the other winners on Day 1.

Qld was superior with the bat all day knocking in 22 runs over their two games with much help from Whitefield, Waters and Blair. With the ball, Gabrielle Plain (NSW) in Game 7 pitched 4 innings for 8 strike-outs, 1 hit and no runs. Emily Fickel (ACT) pitched all 7 innings in Game 6 for 7 strike-outs and no runs scored.
