Titans claw back ground on day 2 of Gilley’s Shield

Two wins from two games have put the Victoria Titans back in the Gilley’s Shield hunt following the second day of play at Mirrabooka International Softball Stadium.

Following an upset win over the well-fancied Queensland Heat earlier today, the Titans ground out a tough 3-0 win over the WA Flames.

Alys Young managed to put two runs on the board with her Victorian teammate Victoria Kulyk contributing another.

All honours must go to the Titans pitcher Monica Perry who only had three hits against her seven strikeouts in seven innings.

The final game of the day was a thriller between the ACT Diamonds and Queensland Heat both teams square at 1-1 into the 7th inning.

Runs from Erin Thras for Queensland and Rebecca McEachern for ACT were the only scoring plays in regulation innings with an 8th needed to decide a winner.

The Diamonds broke the deadlock in the bottom of the 8th when Claire Liddle, starting from second, raced home off hits from Tess Henman and Brianna McGovern to take a 2-1 victory.

It’s the first win of the week for the Diamonds with all teams now in the winner’s circle.
