Steelers survive scare from Denmark

The Aussie Steelers returned to the winner’s circle this morning after a come-from-behind 5-3 victory over a spirited Denmark team.

Australia looked in control with Harrison Peters recording seven strikeouts in the first three innings to keep the Danes in check while Ryan Sinclair and Jett Wright got the Steelers to a 2-0 lead.

The game came alive in the top of the fourth when Isasi Alejandro Wong smacked a 3-run homer off Peters, his only hit of the game, to put Denmark in the lead 3-2.

Scott Patterson answered back for the Aussies with a bomb of his own in the bottom of the fourth to level the score at 3-3.

Veteran Andrew Kirkpatrick was given the pitching duties in the fifth and quickly dismissed the Danes.

The Steelers regained their lead in the sixth when Josh White and Brendon O’Byrne crossed to make the score 5-3.

Kirkpatrick successfully defended the lead and the Steelers overall record at the World Championship stands at 3-1.

Australia take on South Africa tonight at 6:30pm AEST.
