The Junior Steelers will carry momentum into the Super Round of the WBSC U18 Men’s World Cup after comfortably keeping their undefeated record intact ahead of the business end of the tournament.
Australia unsurprisingly made light work of South Africa running up a score of 21-1 in three innings.
Almost the entire Aussie lineup were amongst the hits, Jack Besgrove and Ethan Field standouts with four and three RBIs respectively, Nick Murphy also chalked up three RBIs as Blake Hunter kept the South Africans to just one run from the pitcher’s circle.
Both the Junior Steelers and Japan remain undefeated following their Opening Round, coincidentally, both nations met in the Gold Medal game in 2018 where Australia emerged victorious 6-1.
The Super Round begins tomorrow 27 February with Australia set to take on Guatemala with a time to be confirmed. They will then face Japan on Friday 28 February and tournament hosts New Zealand on Saturday 29 February.
Points from the Opening Round carry over to the Super Round with Australia in a strong position to make the Gold Medal game scheduled for 2:00pm AEDT Sunday 1 March, first and second place following the Super Round will clash for the title of World Champion.
The Bronze Medal game will be played at 11:00am AEDT Sunday 1 March between third and fourth place following the Super Round, all games will be streamed live on the WBSC YouTube page.
