The Junior Steelers easily accounted for Singapore in their third game of the WBSC U18 Men’s Softball World Cup to remain undefeated and on track to defend their title of World Champions.
Jeremy Garland was outstanding for the Junior Steelers on both ends, in just two innings of work, he struck out four Singapore bats, as well as belting a first-pitch homerun followed by a stand-up triple in his first two at-bats to set the tone for the game.
He received plenty of support from his teammates with Hayden Shaw and Joshua Routledge both hit three-run homeruns in the bottom of the second, putting the Junior Steelers up 11-0 after just two innings.
Singapore steadied the ship and stemmed the flow of runs in the top of the third but were unable to record the runs needed to extend the game in the fourth as Australia ran out 11-0 winners courtesy of the run-ahead rule following four innings.
Blake Hunter pitched the final two innings to close out the game recording three strikeouts of his own.
The remaining schedule for the Australians in the Opening Round are as follows, all times AEDT. All games will be livestreamed on the WBSC YouTube page.
