Thirteen proved to be the unlucky number for the Aussie Spirit as they were convincingly beaten by the USSSA Pride in Florida.
It was the Spirit’s 13th game of their debut NPF season, and they lost 13-1 to take their win-loss record to 6-7.
The same two teams play again at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida, at 10am on Friday (AEST).

USSSA PRIDE 13, Aussie Spirit 1
The powerful USSSA Pride started their NPF season with a convincing win over the Aussie Spirit.
The unusual early-season NPF schedule had seen the Spirit and Beijing Eagles play each other 12 times before any other team took the field.
But the long wait didn’t seem to affect the Florida-based Pride, who dominated from start to finish on their home field.
Three Spirit pitchers — Taylor-Paige Stewart, Katie Donovan and Stephanie Trzcinski — could not contain the powerful Pride offence, who combined for 11 hits, including three home runs.
Megan Wiggins, Lauren Chamberlain and Bianka Bell all hit home runs for the Pride. Sierra Romero also did a lot of damage, with four RBIs from her three hits, which included a triple and two doubles.
If the offence wasn’t tough enough, pitchers Delanie Gourley and Jolene Henderson were equally impressive, allowing just three hits and two walks between them.
For the Aussie Spirit, only Verity Long-Droppert, Shannon Keevers and Jessica Torpey hit safely. Torpey and Jordan Lambert also drew walks.
The Spirit’s only run came in the third inning, when Torpey led off with a single was bunted to second by Erin Thras. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
