Biography
Andrew, fondly known as ‘Cheese’, is a tall left handed pitcher who has dominated batting line-ups for many years.
He burst onto the Australian softball scene in 2000, when, as a 15 year old representing his home state ACT, he won the Most Valuable Player award at the Arthur Allsopp Shield (then an U16 Boys’ championship). This would be the first of 21 individual awards Andrew would win in 17 years at national championships. He has played at open level since 2002, helping ACT to win the John Reid Shield on 11 occasions.
In 2001 he made his debut for the Aussie Steelers as a 16 year old, and in the same year, pitched Australia to a gold medal in the final of the Junior Men’s World Championship in Sydney.
In 2004 as a 19 year old he pitched the Aussie Steelers to their first medal at a men’s world championship and five years later formed part of a formidable pitching combination with Adam Folkard, helping the Aussie Steelers become world champions for the first time.
Since 2004, he has played in North America at the International Softball Congress (ISC), currently with New York Gremlins.
The ISC is regarded as the best club tournament in the world and Andrew has an exceptional record, including:
- eight times selected in the All-World team
- awarded Most Outstanding Pitcher in 2006
- 39 career wins pitched, equal 9th all time (currently tied with Adam Folkard)
- two championship titles, with County Materials (2005 & 2006)
Andrew has also played in the Japan Softball League for a number of years, with ACT teammate Nick Norton, for the Daiwa Act team.
In virtually every corner of the fastpitch globe, Andrew is extremely highly regarded.
