The Strike Out Stroke Schools Program celebrated over 2,000 students participating across the country in June.
In November 2018, Softball Australia partnered with Strike Out Stroke to raise awareness to children of the signs and symptoms of stroke with the aim of encouraging them, and all Australians, to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Since then, Softball Australia has assisted in delivering the Strike Out Stroke Schools Program to 18 schools and over 2,350 students.
“Softball Australia is proud to partner with Strike Out Stroke and use our sport as a vehicle to deliver their B.E.F.A.S.T. (Balance Eyes Face Arms Speech Time – call 000) message,” said Ben Utting, Sport Development Manager at Softball Australia.
“Through the Strike Out Stroke Schools Programs, we can educate kids on how to lower their risk of stroke later in life as well as introducing them to a sport they can play for life in softball.”
The program is completely free for schools to run and can be delivered by their own teachers. Once registered, teachers can download all of the resources required which includes classroom activities and softball games.
Once the kids have participated in the Strike Out Stroke softball activity they will be appointed “Stroke Ambassadors” and will encourage family members and friends to do the online fun Stroke Quiz –spreading direct awareness of stroke to potentially hundreds of thousands of Australians.
“Strike Out Stroke is about building awareness in the community so people recognise the symptoms when they are occurring and that they get access to the health services and support they need,” said the Hon. Josh Frydenberg MP at last year’s partnership announcement.
Strike Out Stroke is a national campaign fighting to reduce the prevalence of strokes in our communities. Their goal is to also ensure that those struck by stroke receive timely treatment by raising the awareness of B.E.F.A.S.T.
