Opportunity of a life time for young softball players – places still available

This is an opportunity of a life time for young softball players (U15 and U19) with ambitions to play at a higher representative honours to develop their skills through a tour to North America in July 2017 conducted by SportsLink International in conjunction with Softball Australia. Both teams leave Australia on June 27 and begin their tour in Las Vegas, where they will play in the Stars and Stripes Tournament in front of college coaches and professional scouts (to date, 50 college coaches have registered).

Application to tour

Under 15 and Under 19 female athletes are invited to lodge an application, which combines world class competition, high-calibre coaching and sightseeing over 12 and 21 days respectively.

A former Victorian State Coach and player, Jenny is currently Softball Victoria’s Sporting Schools Coordinator and has had much experience leading junior teams on overseas development tours.

U19 Squad Coach – Anne Vogler

A former Queensland State player, Anne was involved with the Qld U19 team as an Assistant Coach and Head Coach for 7 years. Still very much involved in softball, Anne is Director and Vice President of ‘Play for a Cure’, a Cancer fundraising organisation. Anne is currently Detective Senior Sergeant in the Queensland Police Service.

Tour Leader – Brooke Wilkins

Brooke Wilkins is a 3 x Australian Olympic representative and Australian and International Softball Hall of Fame inductee. Her knowledge and understanding of the nuances of the game and overall mentoring of the girls will be invaluable in their development, and enhance their experience on this tour. Brooke is currently the Technical Project Coordinator for Softball Australia.

Tour cost

The cost of the 12 day tour for U15 is $5790 and 21 day tour for U19 is $7800. Flights, accommodation, uniform and two meals per day are included, as well as sightseeing trips to the Grand Canyon and Universal Studios.

“Softball Australia has put this tour together as part of its Development Pathway to provide players with another opportunity to receive high-quality coaching and quality game-play,” Wilkins says.

“Athletes will receive a whole day of college coach tuition, and transferring this intensive training into game play through a guaranteed five-game tournament, is crucial to progress their development. Hopefully our teams will get all the way to the final”.
