NSW powerhouse rolls on

Superlatives are quickly running out for the undefeated New South Wales Firestars who romped to their eighth straight win after defeating the Queensland Heat and WA Flames this evening at Mirrabooka International Softball Stadium.

After scoring a monster 10 runs at the top of the first inning which included two home runs from Stacey Porter, her second with loaded bases, and one from Rachel Lack.

Michelle Cox scored twice with Shannon Keevers, Montana Kearnes, Emma Iuliano and Tahli Moore adding to the stellar start of the match.

The Heat were able to stem the flow in the 2nd inning but three more runs from Porter, Cox and Lack at the top of the 3rd put this game to bed early, 13-0 to the ladder leading Firestars.

In their second game of the day, the reigning Gilley’s Shield champions notched up a seven run victory over the WA Flames 9-2.

Lack, Porter and Tarni Stepto belted home runs with Iuliano and Moore amongst the runs again while Michelle Cox and Bianca Abrahams crossed twice each.

The Firestars are now well clear on top of the Gilley’s Shield ladder with 16 points.

In the final match of the day, the SA Starz accounted for the Victoria Titans with a 4-1 win, Madeline Cameron, Sarah Tonkin, Amber Hood and Chelsea Robinson doing the damage for the Starz.

Eight strikeouts from pitcher Jailyn Ford kept the Titans in check.
