The U18 New South Wales Women have remained undefeated at Blacktown International Sportspark to win their 27th Elinor McKenzie Shield.
New South Wales cruised through the week undefeated, their closest results all coming against the Queenslanders where they prevailed by the single run in all three match-ups.
However, after Queensland went down in an epic nine innings elimination final 13-9 to Western Australia, the two wouldn’t meet in the Grand Final as the girls from the West aimed for their maiden Elinor McKenzie Shield.
After a hard fought victory, Western Australia needed to regain focus, particularly after the fast start from the NSW girls who quickly took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Alyssa Mighell, Caitlin Wilde and Ryleigh Arnott all crossed home plate to edge in front early in the final.
Western Australia were able to stem the flow of runs for three more innings before New South Wales pulled further away in the bottom of the fifth as they piled on a further three runs to lead 6-0.
Pitcher of the tournament Charli Orsini for New South Wales was as efficient as ever, keeping WA scoreless and after Mighell scored off Wilde’s single in the bottom of the sixth, the hometown team reached an unassailable 7-0 lead to claim the championship convincingly.
Wilde was named Player of the Grand Final courtesy of her impressive performance with the bat.
