The addition of some players who were unavailable in the early part of the season has made a huge difference to the Aussie Spirit.

Consecutive two-out doubles by Stacey Porter and Samantha Poole gave the Aussie Spirit the early lead.

Porter doubled that lead in the third inning when she led off with a home run. Poole then walked, and scored on Jade Wall’s double down the left field line.

Chelsea Forkin blasted a solo homer to increase the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning.

In the sixth, Stacey McManus doubled, Melinda Weaver sacrificed and Forkin followed with an RBI single.

The Spirit added two more runs in the seventh inning, again started by Porter with an infield single. Tamieka Whitefield reached on an error, then Taylah Tsitsikronis hit a sacrifice fly that scored pinch-runner Verity Long-Droppert. A wild pitch added another run to complete the scoring.

Kaia Parnaby and Justine Smethurst, who joined the team this week, shared the pitching duties. Parnaby struck out seven in five innings, allowing just one base-runner. Smethurst pitched two innings, giving up one hit and no walks.
