Game 4: Australia 8, Mexico 1

After Layton Reid got the Junior Steelers off to a perfect start by striking out the side in the first inning, the Australian offence got busy right away.

Jeremy Waters walked, Josh Bond had a bunt single, and both stole successfully. Waters opened the scoring by racing home on a wild pitch, and Michael Ludkin doubled the lead with a sacrifice fly.

From that moment on, the Junior Steelers never looked in danger of defeat.

Reid was particularly impressive, pitching six strong innings and allowing just the one hit, with 15 strikeouts and no walks. Mexico’s only run came in the fourth inning when Jorge Lopez scored on a wild pitch.

First baseman Bolton Nussbaum led the Junior Steeler offence, with two hits and three RBIs. Bond and Jett Wright also had two hits. Ryan King and Dawson Summers also hit safely.
