Play in the Invitational Down Under Series between the Aussie Spirit and Japan Toyota Red Terriers women’s professional softball team resumes Sunday at 12:00 noon.
On Saturday, the Red Terriers won game 3 of the series 2-1. Spirit 1st Base, Forkin, connected on a home run for the Spirit’s only run in the game. In game 4, the world’s best female pitcher, Monica Abbott, took the mound for the Red Terriers for the first time in the Series. We the saw the dream match-up with Spirit’s captain and world’s best hitter, Stacey Porter, taking on Abbott in a head to head battle. The pair squared off twice with Abbott taking the first round striking out Porter, and then Porter evening the score with a walk. In the game, the Red Terriers scored first then the Spirit manufactured a run to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th inning as the rain started to come down. With two out and a runner on 3rd, the game was called off due to rain.
After two days of play, the Red Terrier lead the Series with a 2-1-1 record.
The final two games of the series will be played today. Game times at Blacktown International Sportspark will be 12:00noon and 2.30pm.
This Series is being used by Aussie Spirit selectors to determine the team that will represent Australia at the World Cup of Softball inOklahoma, USA and the WBSC XV Women’s World Softball Championship in Vancouver, Canada in July.
