International Friendship Series: Day Two

International Friendship Series: Day Two

With a rain affected start to the day, teams had to keep themselves busy until 4:00pm when the sun came out and diamonds were playable.

A revised draw saw all teams playing at least one game with timeslots extending to 8:00pm but this didn’t dampen their enthusiasm with some quality softball hitting the diamonds. Here is a recap of Day 2:

GAME 9 Gold drew with Western Civil 2 – 2
GAME 11 Queensland dftd Southern Pride 8 – 2
GAME 12 Green dftd Southern Pride 10 – 0
GAME 10 NZ Emerging Sox dftd NSW 7 – 2

Manaki Aranui (NZ Emerging Sox) backed up a solid team batting performance with a bomb to send two across the plate, putting the game out of reach for NSW in the late game on Diamond 3.

Bolton Nussbaum (Aussie Green) pitched a no hitter in his four innings against the Southern Pride, with eight strikeouts as his team went on to win 8 – 0.

GAME 10 Torrens Valley dftd NZ Emerging Sox 2 – 0
GAME 11 Waverley dftd Queensland 6 – 0
GAME 17 NSW dftd Southern Pride 8 – 3
GAME 13 Gold dftd ISA NZ 11 – 4
GAME 12 Green dftd Torrens Valley 1 – 0

Gabrielle Plain (Aussie Green) completed a solid day of pitching for the Aussie contingent pitching a no hitter, including 17 strikeouts against the Torrens Valley Redsox. Her pitching proved pivotal in a tight finish that saw the Green girls prevail 1-0 in 7th inning.

NSW and Southern Pride fought out an entertaining match on Diamond 3 with Emma Grant (NSW) and Breigh Monaghan (Southern Pride) both scoring in-the-park home runs for their teams. This wasn’t enough for the Pride, going down 8 – 3.
