The opening day of the International Friendship Series got underway yesterday amid beautiful sunshine at Redlands Softball Association in Queensland.
A total of 13 teams, split across male and female competitions, took to the diamond, including teams from New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
Day one of the five day tournament saw six games played in the female competition and seven games played in the male competition.
In the female competition, the Australia Green and Australia Gold teams, comprised of members of the Australian U19 Women’s Squad, dominated their games and remained as the only two unbeaten teams at the end of the day. The two teams will play against each other in today’s round of games.
In the male competition, there were a number of close results.
The NZ Emerging Sox, New Zealand’s U17 Boys team, won both of their opening games. The Australia Green and Australia Gold teams, comprised of members of Australia’s U17 Boys’ Squad, both remained undefeated as well, with a win and a draw apiece, after the two teams played out a thrilling 5-5 draw.
The second day of the tournament will see a further six female and seven male games played. The tournament, which runs from 9-13 July, will conclude on Friday.
