Under 17 Boys – Day 5

In the last day of round games, SA kicked off in the second innings with 5 runs, but Vic responded with 6 runs including a 2 run homer in to Cody Rodwell. In an exciting return, SA maximized on an error to bring 4 more in. Vic kept a tight defence allowing no more runs. Vic kept fighting adding another run in the 6th and one more in the 7th but not enough leaving SA to take the game 9-8.

QLD finished their round game with a 13-2 win over WA in five innings. NSW finished their rounds with one more win over ACT 8-4. 

The final placings after the rounds as follows:

Later that afternoon, the first of the elimination games started with the undefeated NSW and QLD going head to head as 1 vs 2. QLD came away with an exciting 12-4 win. Kicking the game off, QLD’s Shelton Waller hit a three run home run  off of NSW’s Harrison Pudner. QLD kept putting runs on the board throughout the game, with Waller and Reid for QLD keeping NSW to 4 runs. The win sealed QLD’s place in the 2017 Grand Final. NSW will have to play off on Saturday against the Winner of SA and ACT to have another shot at the Grand FInal.

SA and ACT played off for 3rd in the last game of the day. ACT took the game 12-7 but both team played with huge heart and gave it their all. A great game to watch, with a clinching finish. In the bottom of the 6th, ACT scored 5 runs putting them 12-6. SA responded in the top of the 7th with another run, and with loaded bases, 2 out SA’s Ben Marsh with 2 balls and 1 strike hit an absolute corker of a line drive down third base line, but ACT’s Kyle Doherty didnt flinch to catch it giving them out 3 and game. ACT lock in a top 3 finish and go to Saturdays eliminations, playing NSW for one last attempt at the Grand Final.
