Under 19 Women – Day 4

Now at the conclusion of the 4th day of play and it was business as usual for NSW as they sit undefeated atop the ladder on eight wins after convincingly defeating their two opponents on Wednesday. This time it was WA and SA who were unable to provide answers to the quality NSW pitching as both teams went scoreless for their respective games.

Winners on Day 4 included Vic, Qld, WA and SA, all of whom picked up a win each. SA who did not have the start they had hoped can now potentially finish as high as second if results go their way after defeating 2nd placed Qld 8-4.

With two games to play each, only one positon on the ladder is beyond doubt. Teams will today be scrambling to earn a spot in the final four and give themselves a shot at the Elinor McKenzie Shield this Saturday. All six of the Day 5 games will have a significant impact on the ladder and it is sure to be a competitive afternoon and evening of softball.

Standout Individual Performances

NSW pitcher Tarni Stepto had 6 SO’s and collected only 2 hits as she shut out WA in Game 21, while teammate Gabby Plain picked up 11 SO’s and no hits giving SA no chance in the evening game. Teams are finding it increasingly difficult to get their offense rolling against these two.

Gemma Hamilton (Vic) was solid with 3 hits from her 3 AB’s but it wasn’t enough in the high scoring loss to WA. A single in the bottom of the first and a double in bottom fifth brought 3 runners home for a good performance.
