Under 19 Men – Day 3

Day 3 at Redlands and day 2 of actual play saw plenty of action as the temperature continued to rise out on the diamond throughout the games.

The first game of the day saw Qld continue their strong performance with a convincing 14-4 win over the Vics. The afternoon games saw the Queensland boys top off a trifecta of wins defeating ACT and Western Australia.  As a result of a flawless days play the host state saw themselves sitting equal atop the ladder at the end of Round 1.

Sitting above Qld (only on runs against) at the end of the first round, NSW have proven why they are defending champions with 43 runs scored and only 13 runs against. NSW took on Vic in their first game taking out an 8-1 victory and in their second game they defeated WA 8-0.

ACT were the other winner on Day 2, first picking up a win over WA (11-4), and then in the Afternoon knocking over Vic (9-1).

Vic and WA now sit 3 and 4 wins respectively off of the third placed ACT, and with 6 round games remaining each will need to lift their game if they are any chance of a finals berth.

Standout Individual Performances

Julian Scott Davies (QLD) and Mitchell Ward (QLD) scored two 2 RBI’s each in Game 15 against WA. Ward did so with an inside the park home run in the top of the 4th.

Jack Burt (WA) tried his hardest to keep his team in the game against ACT in Game 9, but his 3 hits and 3 RBI’s from his 3 AB’s weren’t enough in the 11-4 loss.

Thomas Zeylemaker (NSW) gave up 5 hits and struck out 8 batters with no runs scored in the game against Western Australia.
