2017 Open Men John Reid Shield – Day 2
The bats continue to dominate with 17 home runs on day 2 of the 2017 Open Men John Reid Shield. Results today have thrown the competition wide open with all teams now having lost at least one game.
After defeating both of last year’s grand finalists on day 1, Queensland were unable to back up on Day 2 and suffered losses to both Victoria and South Australia. South Australia’s win over Queensland means that all teams have now won at least one game.
With all teams having played 4 games, the ACT and NSW currently sit equal top with 3 wins each. They are closely followed by Queensland and Victoria with 2 wins and then WA and SA with one win.
Tomorrow’s game of the day will undoubtedly be the matchup between NSW and the ACT, with the winner claiming top spot after the completion of round 1 competition games.
Standout Individual Performances
Despite the dominance of the bat, 3 pitchers managed to keep their opposition scoreless. Well pitched by Jarryd Farrell (SA) against Queensland, Harri Peters (NSW) against Victoria and Jay Selu (ACT) who not only kept SA scoreless but also followed his pitching up with a home run.
With 17 home runs and 75 runs being scored, there were obviously many good batters, however the standout on day 2 was Jason Garner (WA) who hit 2 home runs with 4 RBI’s against NSW.
