Under 19 Men – Day 1 & 2
Unfortunately Day 1 of the Nox Bailey Shield and U15 Regional Championship was a washout with continuous showers throughout the day. However tournament organisers, players, officials and volunteers regrouped for an amended schedule for Day 2.
“Sunny Queensland” returned for Day 2 and all rain and washout was forgotten. The start of round one saw defending champions New South Wales kicking off their campaign with an 8-0 win over the ACT. Queensland, last year’s runner up, also started extremely strong with a 15-0 win over WA.
The two teams did not have to wait long for their Grand Final rematch with NSW and Qld battling it out in Game 4. Both teams fought hard in a high scoring contest. Qld scoring 5 runs in the 3rd proved to create too great a lead and ended up winning 12-8.
Victoria’s first game saw them take on Western Australia. Victoria came out to show off their big hitting and secured an 11-3 win. Several hours later and the Vics were unable to back it up going down to the ACT in a 9-0 loss.
ACT played out their triple header with a win over Qld in a game that went into a tie breaker and showed that this competition is wide open.
The 7pm game saw NSW and Western Australia play against each other. Defending champions New South Wales proved too strong for WA taking out a 12-0 and leaving the boys from the west without a win and sitting fifth going into Day 3.
Standout Individual Performances
Brock Finlay (Qld) had an astonishing 14 RBIs over his 3 games which included sending 4 bombs over the fence in a dominant display.
Jeron Tan (ACT) proved tough for the Vics to get bat on ball as he gave up only 1 hit with his 8 SO’s in the 9-0 ACT win.
