Working Committees

Board Committees

The Softball Australia Board Committees, which meet monthly, are the Finance Committee and the Governance Committee.

Finance Committee

The purpose of the Finance Committee is to make recommendations and advise the Board on financial matters, in particular:

  • Financial policies
  • Financial performance
  • Financial management systems and processes
  • Financial reporting, including the annual financial report
  • Appointment and oversight of the external auditor
  • Compliance with accounting requirements
  • Oversight and implementation of ongoing financial reform
  • Identification of and advice on potential and significant new revenue generating and cost saving initiatives
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Board

Governance Committee

The purpose of the Governance Committee is to make recommendations and advise the Board on governance matters, in particular:

  • Compliance with regulatory, legal and ethical requirements
  • Insurance
  • Risk assessment and management, including but not limited to:
    • Any environmental, occupational health, welfare and safety risks
    • Legal and criminal risks
    • Conflicts of interest
    • Privacy
    • Equal opportunity and discrimination
  • Oversight and implementation of ongoing governance reform that arises as a result of the implementation of the Softball Australia Strategic Plan
  • Member relationship management & reporting
  • Compliance with Softball Australia values as detailed in our strategic plan and the Member Protection Policy
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Board

Working Committees

Softball Australia has established the following 7 Working Committees that report to and advise the CEO on the management and delivery of programs and activities critical to the development of Softball in Australia:

  • Community & Grassroots
  • High Performance
  • Marketing & Business Development
  • Membership
  • National Events
  • Recognition and History
  • Technical – the Technical Committee has 3 sub-committees: the National Umpiring Committee, the National Scoring Committee and the National Coaching Committee

Community & Grassroots Committee

The Community & Grassroots Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters:

  • Association and club development
  • Junior recruitment, including the National Junior Recruitment Program (in consultation with the Membership Committee)
  • Social inclusion programs, including the People with a Disability (PWaD), Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and socially isolated/disadvantaged populations programs
  • Indigenous Sports Program (ISP)
  • Social and recreational Softball programs
  • Product development relevant to these programs
  • Relationships with organisations that are active in the areas covered by this Committee

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on Community & Grassroots matters that impact the governance of Softball Australia.

High Performance Committee

The High Performance Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters:

  • The strategic direction of the competition pathway, including National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield, other elite national events and international tours
  • Implementation of all national programs including the ‘Unearthing the Stars’ talent development program
  • Development and implementation of National Elite Development Program (the athlete development pathway) which includes:
    • National talent identification programs, including “Unearthing the Stars”
    • The daily training environment for elite and sub-elite athletes
  • Promotion of High Performance initiatives on the website and other marketing communications channels, in consultation with the eMarketing Coordinator
  • High Performance policies and processes, including team selection
  • Priorities for resource allocation
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the CEO

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on any High Performance matters that impact the governance of Softball Australia.

Marketing & Business Development Committee

The Marketing & Business Development Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters:

  • Marketing strategy and tactics
  • eMarketing, which includes the Softball Australia website and eCommunications
  • Traditional marketing communications
  • Brand management
  • Sponsorship and affinity programs
  • Media relations
  • Market research
  • Merchandise and other commercial activities
  • Compliance with the ASC FSLA Acknowledgement requirements
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the CEO

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on the following Marketing & business development matters:

  • Marketing and business development implications or aspects of governance policies
  • Reputation management

Membership Committee

The Membership Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters:

  • Membership management plan, including membership retention and recruitment and member segmentation
  • Management of the CRM database
  • Volunteer management
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the CEO

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on the following membership matters:

  • Membership policies
  • Membership categories
  • Membership fees and levies
  • Admission and rejection of members
  • Member dispute resolution and discipline

 

The purpose of the Committee will be reviewed annually by the CEO in consultation with the Committee Chair, following the review of the Softball Australia Strategic Plan.

National Events Committee

The Events Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters:

  • The management of National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield and other national events, including: draws, player drafts, event logistics, regulations and liaison with various stakeholders
  • Standards and the allocation process for hosting National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield and other national events
  • Strategic direction for National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield and other national events, in consultation with the High Performance Working Committee
  • Content about National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield, other national events and international events on the Softball Australia website, in consultation with the eMarketing Manager
  • Promotion of National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield, other national events and international events in consultation with the eMarketing Manager
  • Sponsorship opportunities for National Championships, the Gilley’s Shield, other national events and international events in consultation with the eMarketing Manager
  • Overseas tour logistics, in consultation with the Manager High Performance Pathways
  • Conduct of international events in Australia

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on any Event matters that might impact the governance of Softball Australia.

Recognition & History Committee

The Recognition & History Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters, in particular:

  • Softball Australia’s Awards and Recognition Program
  • The management of Softball Australia’s historical archive
  • The development and management of the Softball Australia Alumni Program
  • The promotion and publication of information about these Programs on the Softball Australia website and other media, in consultation with the eMarketing Manager
  • Recommendations on possible funding sources to support the delivery of these Programs, in consultation with the CEO
  • Other responsibilities as agreed with the CEO

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on the following matters:

  • Relevant policies
  • Nominations for:
    • Softball Australia Life Membership
    • Softball Australia Hall of Fame
    • Softball Australia Awards of Excellence
    • Softball Australia Service Awards
    • Australian Honours
    • ISF Hall of Fame

Technical Committee

The Technical Working Committee advises the Softball Australia CEO on the following matters:

  • Coaching, umpiring and scoring management, including:
    • Strategy
    • Recruitment and retention
    • Service delivery
    • Education and accreditation
    • Codes of conduct
    • Fees and levies
    • Appointments (national coach appointments will be made by the Manager Higher Performance Pathway and CEO)
  • Facility standards and development
  • Regulations of the game and competitions
  • Other responsibilities as directedby the CEO

 

In addition, through the Softball Australia CEO, the Committee advises the Softball Australia Board on any technical matters that impact the governance of Softball Australia. The Technical Committee has 3 sub-committees: the National Umpiring Committee, the National Scoring Committeeand the National Coaching Committee.
