Comets sweep doubleheader against Peppers in Mankato

The Cleveland Comets (9-12) won their fourth straight against the Aussie Peppers (4-14) as the squad recorded its 9th win of the 2019 season after sweeping Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Comets were down to their last out in game one of the doubleheader, trailing 3-2, before a Stacey McManus error at second extended the inning.

Sashel Palacios then delivered a two-out double as Tori Vidales came around to score the tying run.

In the top of the 8th inning, Emily Clark smashed a two-run go-ahead homer out past the left-field fence to put the Comets up 5-3 over the Peppers. Cleveland would go on to win by that score in an extra-innings thriller.

Shelby McCombs gave up one run in  5.1 innings of work. She struck out four for the Comets. Sierra Hyland pitched 2.2 innings for Cleveland. Hyland gave up a couple of unearned runs and struck out three.

Ellen Roberts started in the circle for the Peppers. Roberts pitched four innings and allowed a couple of earned runs.

In game two, Vidales delivered a solo home run in the top of the first inning. She had two RBI’s in the contest as Cleveland went on to win 4-1 over the Peppers.

Cleveland’s Randi Rupp pitched six innings, striking out six in that time while giving up just the one earned run.

Taylah Tsitsikronis drove in the one Peppers run in the seventh inning.
