Softball Australia is pleased to announce the introduction of the Over 35 National Championships.
State lines will be drawn when Softball NSW host the inaugural championships in 2021. To be held as a combined event at Blacktown International Sportspark from 27-31 July, state teams will compete in an Over 35 Women’s National Championship and Over 35 Men’s National Championship.
The new championships will provide an opportunity for players to continue participating in softball at an elite level, with those born in 1986 or earlier eligible to represent their state.
“We’re delighted to be able provide a new National Championship to cater for another age group of elite level talent,” said David Pryles, Executive Officer at Softball Australia.
“A significant number of players fall into that category so we’re really looking forward to catering to their competitiveness with these new championships.”
Softball NSW Chief Executive Officer Daniel Rushworth said they look forward to hosting what’s sure to be an exciting week at one of the premier softball venues in the country.
The tournaments are set to begin as Medals are decided at the Tokyo Olympic Games, the perfect start to a competitive week.
“It’s great to be hosting the first iterations of the Men’s and Women’s Over 35 National Championships here at Blacktown International Sportspark,” said Rushworth.
“It’s fitting we have another National event at the venue which hosted softball in the 2000 Olympics and hopefully we’ll be celebrating another Medal for Australia in Tokyo on the opening night.”
Softball Australia will provide further event details over the coming months.
