The World Cup of Softball will be played in Oklahoma City, from 5-9 July, and feature eight teams, including the top four WBSC ranked nations – Japan (1), USA (2), Canada (3) and Australia (4). Joining those teams are Puerto Rico (7), Mexico (10), Philippines (17) and the USA Junior Women’s National Team.
The Canada Cup will be played in Surrey, just outside of Vancouver, from 11-17 July and will feature some of the world’s top national teams.
The majority of the players selected in the Australian team were part of the recent tour to Japan for the Toyota Cup, where the Aussie Spirit played five games for a 3-2 win-loss record.
For the upcoming tour, there are two newcomers to the team, with Jordan Lambert and Jessica Torpey set to play with the Aussie Spirit for the first time.
Both Lambert, an infielder from SA, and Torpey, a utility from Queensland, played for the All-Stars team at the International Down Under Series at Blacktown in February.
Australia’s participation in the World Cup of Softball and Canada Cup is part of Softball Australia’s high-performance program, which is focused on getting to the next Olympics and performing well in Tokyo and beyond.
